Can a Foreigner Own a Company in Bosnia and Herzegovina?

Yes. Foreign individuals and foreign legal entities may establish and own companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, subject to the applicable company registration and foreign investment rules.

In most business sectors, foreign investors may own 100% of the company, although certain regulated activities may be subject to additional restrictions or approvals. (fipa.gov.ba)

What is required?

A foreign founder will generally need:

  • identification documents

  • a company founding act

  • registration before the competent court

  • payment of the required share capital

  • tax registration

  • a business bank account

Additional documents may be required if the founder is a foreign legal entity.

Does company ownership give the right to work or reside in BiH?

No. Owning a company does not automatically give a foreign national the right to work or reside in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Depending on the person's role in the company, a work permit and temporary residence permit may also be required.
