Work and Residence Permit for Foreign Company Owners in BiH
Foreign nationals may establish and own companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, company ownership alone does not automatically grant the right to work or reside in BiH.
When is a work permit required?
A foreign company founder who only performs certain activities that do not constitute employment and do not exceed three months per year may be exempt from obtaining a work permit.
However, if the foreign founder also acts as a company director or manager and receives a salary, a work permit is generally required.
What about residence?
After obtaining a work permit, the foreign national generally applies for temporary residence based on employment.
A foreigner may not normally start working solely on the basis of a work permit before temporary residence has also been approved.
