Work Permit in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Foreign nationals who intend to work in Bosnia and Herzegovina generally need a work permit, unless they fall under one of the statutory exemptions.
The work permit is usually obtained by the employer before the foreign employee starts working. It is issued for a specific person, employer and position.
What is the procedure?
The usual procedure includes:
finding an employer in Bosnia and Herzegovina
submission of the work permit application by the employer
issuance of the work permit by the competent employment authority
application for temporary residence based on the issued work permit
A foreign national generally cannot start working solely on the basis of the work permit. Temporary residence based on employment must also be approved.
How long is a work permit valid?
A work permit is issued for a specific period and generally cannot be issued for longer than one year. It may be extended if the legal requirements continue to be met.
Certain categories of foreign nationals may work in Bosnia and Herzegovina without obtaining a standard work permit, subject to the conditions prescribed by law.
